Working with a variety of mediums such as acrylic and oil (being her favourite), to charcoal, pastel, pencil and even digital works and photography, Elena captures abstract elements to her realism.
“It was always a challenge to capture not only a faithful likeness in portraits, but also the character and feelings of person. I believe portraiture is the most complicated genre in visual art and I want to master my skills at it. I don’t leave my house without a small sketchbook and pencil in my pocket. I sketch people everywhere I go — libraries, public transit, playgrounds, coffee shops, food courts. I also meet with a small group of artist friends every Thursday in my studio where we paint and draw people. Anyone who wants to model for us is welcome to get in touch: we’re at Marda Loop Art Studio on Facebook.“
