Elle is a genius at creating mood, movement and even mystery in her artworks.
I would say that my art idol would have to be Vincent Van Gogh (and yes…I may or may not happen to have the VVG action figure in my bedroom).
Why would I pick this guy? Fascinating life. I love his individuality, he appears to have lived life so incredibly passionately. He did not just go plodding along content to never have to grow or change. He went on an adventure to become a painter. He started down other paths, found his artist way and then worked really hard to build up a huge body of work because he was passionate about his work and loved to create. Although he only sold one painting in his lifetime, this did not deter him from his chosen path.
I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh
I believe that opportunity to have a lunch date with this legendary figure would be magic. I would want to ask him questions about his life and his views on art then and now in our time. Over lunch I would want to know how his feelings about the fact that although he did not sell many works in his lifetime, that after his death his work became…priceless.
During the rest of our day together I would want to have the opportunity to have a painting date with him. It would be fascinated to have his input on my work and to discuss believing in yourself and doing your own thing. I believe that meeting Van Gogh would be inspiring. His work was bold and thoroughly original for his time. The colors and passion in his work are outstanding …and who cuts off their ear? Must be a great story there.
I find Van Gogh’s fusion of form and content is powerful; His work is dramatic, lyrical, imaginative, and emotional. It seems as though the artist was struggling to find either a balm for his madness or to explain to himself the spiritual essence of man and nature.
I find it inspirational that in spite of his lack of success during his lifetime, and health struggles, Van Gogh’s legacy is have left a lasting impact on the world of art. Van Gogh is now viewed as one of the world’s most influential artists who were instrumental in having helped lay the foundations of modern art.
